Etymology 1[edit]
Deverbal from schiamazzare + -o. Alternatively, possibly corresponds to Latin exclāmatiō[1] (whence also the borrowing esclamazione, from the accusative form), with the verb derived from the noun instead. Compare also Old French esclamasse.
