Borrowed from Old Church Slavonic скѫпъ (skǫpŭ), from Proto-Slavic *skǫpъ (compare Serbo-Croatian skȗp, Slovene skôp, Bulgarian скъп (skǎp)). Compare Aromanian scumpu.
