Etymology[edit]
From Proto-Finnic *tëpras (compare Estonian tõbras), borrowed from Proto-Germanic *þeuraz (“bull”), from Proto-Indo-European *táwros; originally meant "bull". Doublet of Taurus, tarvas, and torvi.
