Etymology

Ultimately from a palatalised variant Proto-Slavic *trǫsъ (shaking) (Can this(+) etymology be sourced?), whence also Belarusian трусь (trusʹ). Cognates include Kashubian trus (rabbit), Belarusian трус (trus, rabbit; earthquake) and Russian трус (trus, coward; earthquake). Doublet of trząs (shake, wobble).
