Etymology[edit]

From *eskir- (to become old), from Proto-Turkic *eskü (old).

Compare to Kazakh ескіру (eskıru), Nogai эскируьв (éskirüv), Kyrgyz эскирүү (eskirüü), Southern Altai эскирер (eskirer), Crimean Tatar eskirmek, Karachay-Balkar эскирирге (eskirirge), Uzbek eskirmoq, etc.

Verb[edit]

иҫкереү (iśkerew) (intransitive, takes inanimate subjects)

  1. (inanimate) to become old; wear out
    Доға ҡабатлауҙан иҫкермәй.
    Doğa qabatlawźan iśkerməy.
    A prayer does not get old from repeating.
  2. to become obsolete, get out of date; go out of use; go out of fashion
  3. decay, become decrepit or dilapidated
  4. (food) spoil; (bread) grow stale
