Morphologically, күс- (küs-, to move from one place to another) +‎ -кен (-ken), for the latter compare ташҡын (taşqın, flood).

Compare to Kazakh көшкін (köşkın, avalanche); Kyrgyz көчкү (köckü, landslide, avalanche), Uzbek koʻchki (landslide, avalanche), etc.
