Etymology[edit]
From Proto-Mordvinic *lavtəmə. Possibly ultimately derived from Proto-Uralic *lapa (“surface; plane (of an object)”); compare Finnish lapa (“shoulder”).
Cognate with Moksha лафту (laftu).
