From Proto-Turkic *umnït- (to forget). Cognate with Old Turkic [script needed] (unït-), Kyrgyz унутуу (unutuu), Kazakh ұмыту (ūmytu), Bashkir онотоу (onotow), Tatar онытырга (onıtırga), Azerbaijani unutmaq, Turkish unutmak, Uzbek unutmoq, Shor ундударға (undudarɣa), Khakas ундирға (undirğa), Tuvan уттур (uttur), Yakut умун (umun), Chuvash ман (man), etc.
