From Old Turkic jenčü, jünčü, ǯenčü, ünǯü "pearl", from Sinitic 珍珠 (zhēnzhū) "pearl".

Cognate with Kazakh інжу (injw), Kyrgyz инжу (incu), Turkish inci "pearl", etc.
