Etymology[edit]

Certainly a borrowing, but the exact origin is unknown. The name was borne by the Roman virgin St. Rhipsime martyred in Armenia. In the Middle Ages confused with the unrelated name Հոռոմ (Hoṙom), which gave hybrids like Հոռոմսիմ (Hoṙomsim), etc.
