Probably from Middle High German ūʒlegen (to display, lay out; interpret; pronounce; lend money).[1][2][3] By surface analysis, אויס־ (oys-) +‎ לייגן (leygn). Compare German auslegen (to lay out, display; interpret; lend money), Dutch uitleggen (explain; interpret)
