Etymology[edit]

From Middle High German immer (also iemer, imer), from Old High German iomēr (always). From io (always) +‎ mēr (more). Compare German immer. Cognate with Dutch immer, German Low German ümmer, jümmer, jümmers, Middle English a mare, aa mare (evermore).
