Inherited from Prakrit 𑀪𑀸𑀉𑀚𑀸𑀬𑀸 (bhāujāyā) / भाउजाय़ा / 𑀪𑀸𑀉𑀚𑁆𑀚𑀸𑀇𑀬𑀸 (bhāujjāiyā), from Sanskrit भ्रातुर्जाया (bhrāturjāyā). By surface analysis, بھائی (bhā'ī) + جاؤ (jā'o).
