From Middle Persian [script needed] (xwarrah, “divine glory, splendour”), which is either inherited from Proto-Iranian *huHarnā́h, or a borrowing from Avestan 𐬓𐬀𐬭𐬆𐬥𐬀𐬵 (xᵛarənah). Related to فر (farr, “splendor, beauty, lustre”).
