Etymology[edit]

Corrupted from Classical Persian پرشاور (parašāvar), ultimately from Sanskrit पुरुषपुर (puruṣapura, city of men). Cognates Pashto پېښور (pex̌awar) and Urdu پشاور (piśāvar).
