Ottoman Turkish[edit]

Etymology[edit]

Analyzable as a compound of چاپاق (çapak, sleep, rheum, gound) +‎ بالق (balık, fish); however the first part actually derives from Proto-Turkic *čapak (carp bream), like Azerbaijani çapaq, Turkmen çapak and Chuvash ҫупах (śup̬ah).

Noun[edit]

چاپاق بالغی (çapak balığı)

  1. carp bream (Abramis brama)

Descendants[edit]
