Verb[edit]

یاد رفتن (yâd raftan) (present stem یاد رو (yâd rav))

  1. (impersonal) to forget
یادت نره به مادرت تلفن کنی. (more colloquial)
    yâd-et na-re be mâdar-et telefon koni.
Don't forget to call your mother.
یادم رفت کتاب‌هات رو بخرم. (more colloquial)
    yâd-am raft ketâb-et-ro be-xaram.
I forgot to buy your books.

Usage notes[edit]

As in the examples above, the construction is impersonal and literally means "[one's] memory goes". What in English would be the subject of "to forget" is introduced with a pronominal enclitic attached to یاد (yâd) to mark the possessor of the memory.
