Etymology[edit]
From Aramaic שְׁתַעֵסְרֶא (štaʿesrē). Equivalent to ܐܸܫܸܬ (išit, “six”) + ܥܸܣܲܪ (ʿisar, “ten”); compare Arabic سِتَّ عَشْرَةَ (sitta ʕašrata) and Hebrew שֵׁשׁ עֶשְׂרֵה (shésh 'esré).
