Etymology[edit]

From Aramaic שְׁתַעֵסְרֶא (štaʿesrē). Equivalent to ܐܸܫܸܬ (išit, six) +‎ ܥܸܣܲܪ (ʿisar, ten); compare Arabic سِتَّ عَشْرَةَ (sitta ʕašrata) and Hebrew שֵׁשׁ עֶשְׂרֵה (shésh 'esré).
