From ܛܒܚܐ (ṭabbāḥāʾ, “butcher”), from the root ܛ-ܒ-ܚ (IPA: /tˁ-b-ħ/) related to slaughtering + the abstract noun ending ܘܬܐ- (-ūṯāʾ). Compare Hebrew טַבָּחוּת (ṭabbāḥûṯ).
