Etymology[edit]

From ܛܒܚܐ (ṭabbāḥāʾ, butcher), from the root ܛ-ܒ-ܚ (IPA(key): /tˁ-b-ħ/) related to slaughtering + the abstract noun ending ܘܬܐ- (-ūṯāʾ). Compare Hebrew טַבָּחוּת (ṭabbāḥûṯ).
