Etymology[edit]

From (lə-, la-, to, for) + ܓܡܪ (gəmār), absolute state of ܓܡܪܐ (gəmārā, completion). The alternate pronunciation ܓܡܪ (gəmar) is the absolute form of the unattested *ܓܡܪܐ (gamrā).
