Borrowed from Classical Syriac, from Ancient Greek Λάζαρος (Lázaros), from Biblical Hebrew אֶלְעָזָר (ʾelʿāzār, literally God has helped). Doublet of ܐܹܠܝܼܥܵܙܲܪ (ēlīˁāzar, Eleazar).
