Borrowed from Classical Syriac, from Ancient Greek Λάζαρος (Lázaros), from Biblical Hebrew אֶלְעָזָר (ʾelʿāzār, literally “God has helped”). Doublet of ܐܹܠܝܼܥܵܙܲܪ (ēlīˁāzar, “Eleazar”).
