Etymology[edit]
From a colloquial expression in Arabic عَلَى الأَسَاس (ʕalā al-ʔasās, literally “on the foundation”).

- hamzūmē ìwā minī ayḵ d-ˁalˀassās kim mamrˁinnēh.
- He was speaking to me as if I hurt him.
- ܥܲܠܐܲܣܵܣ ܐܲܢ݇ܬ ܟܸܡ ܦܲܠܛܸܬ ܠܹܗ ܙܸܒܠܵܐ ܬܸܡܵܠ ܒܠܲܝܠܹܐ!

Usage notes[edit]
- While this is an adverb, it is also used as an adjective, stressed when followed by the noun. Translated as “so-called”, “supposed”, or “alleged” (someone or something that is meant to have a certain characteristic but doesn't in reality)
- ܚܲܒ݂ܪܝܼ ܥܲܠܐܲܣܵܣ، ܟܸܡ ܫܵܒ݂ܹܩ ܠܝܼ ܒܓܹܒܵܐ ܕܐܘܼܪܚܵܐ.
- ḥaḇrī ˁalˀassās, kim šāḇēq lī b-gēbā d-urḥā.
- My so-called friend, abandoned me at the side of the road.
