Etymology[edit]
From Proto-Semitic *ʿanbab- (“fruit, flower, shoot”), ultimately Proto-Afroasiatic *ʿanbab- (“plant, flower”). Compare Classical Syriac ܥܢܒܬܐ (ʿinbəṯā), Arabic عِنَب (ʕinab), Hebrew עֵנָב (ʿēnāḇ).
