Assyrian Neo-Aramaic[edit]
Etymology[edit]
Root |
---|
ܪ ܟ ܟ (r k k) |
2 terms |
From the older form ܪܵܟ݂ܸܟ݂ (rāḵiḵ). The shift of the second consonant from /x/ to /k/ is possibly due to the /k/ in derived words like ܪܲܟܝܼܟ݂ܵܐ (rakīḵā, “soft”). This shift must be ancient, otherwise the verb would have turned to ܪܵܐܸܟ݂* (rāˀiḵ*) like other G-stem verbs with 2 identical final consonants.
Pronunciation[edit]
Verb[edit]
ܪܵܟܸܟ݂ • (rākiḵ) (present participle ܟܪܵܟ݂ܵܐ (krāḵā), past participle ܪܟܝܼܟ݂ܵܐ (rkīḵā))
- (intransitive) to be/become soft, soften
