Etymology[edit]

Inherited from Old Marathi उकणे (ukaṇe), from Middle Kannada. Compare Modern Kannada ಒಕ್ಕರಿಸುವುದು (okkarisuvudu, to dry heave, gag, retch). Compare Konkani ओक्चे (ōkce).

  1. (intransitive, transitive) to vomit
  2. (figuratively, transitive) to give up unlawfully obtained money, to refund
