Borrowed from Classical Persian آیَتُ‌اللّٰه (āyatu-llāh), from Arabic آيَةُ الله (ʔāyatu llāh, sign of God‎). Compare Hindustani آیَتُ ٱللہ / आयतुल्लाह (āyatullāh).
