Inherited from Prakrit *𑀓𑁂𑀯𑀺 (*kevi), from *𑀓𑁂 (*ke) +‎ 𑀅𑀯𑀺 (avi), from Sanskrit के (ke), the nominative/accusative dual of किम् (kim), and अपि (api, indefinite marker) respectively. Cognate with Assamese কেও (keü).
