Inherited from Magadhi Prakrit 𑀕𑀽𑀳 (gūha), from Sanskrit গূথ (gūtha), ultimately from Proto-Indo-European *g(ʷ)uH-. Cognate with Sylheti ꠉꠥ (gu).
