Etymology[edit]
Inherited from Sanskrit इष्टका (íṣṭakā, “brick”), from Proto-Indo-Iranian *Hišt- (“brick”), possibly from the BMAC substrate. Cognate with Gujarati ઈંટ (ī̃ṭa), Marathi वीट (vīṭ), Bengali ইট (iṭ), and Odia ଇଟା (iṭa)
