Etymology[edit]

From ა- (a-) +‎ დვ- (dv-, to blaze, ignite) +‎ -ენ (-en). Inherited from Proto-Kartvelian *bdw- (to set, catch fire), cognate with Svan მჷბიდ (məbid, combustible).

  1. (fire, wood etc.) to blaze, to ignite

  2. (animal) to be in heat

    The cow is in heat
  3. somewhere in someone's body it is as if a fire is flaring up
    ჰამ პიპერი დიდო ნკოლო რენ. ნუკუზ მადუ.
    ham p̌ip̌eri dido nǩolo ren. nuǩuz madu.
    This pepper is very hot. My mouth burned.
