Etymology[edit]

From Old Georgian კუეთს (ḳuets), from Proto-Kartvelian *ḳwet-. Cognate with Mingrelian კვათუა (ḳvatua, cutting), Laz ოკვათუ (oǩvatu, cutting) and Svan ლიკუთურე (liḳuture, cutting in thin pieces).
