Etymology[edit]

From კი- (ǩi-) +‎ -ამ (-am) +‎ -ს (-s). Inherited from Proto-Kartvelian *ḳi- (to cry).

  1. (bird or rooster) to crow, to sing
    ტოროჯინა ამსერი ოფშა კიჲამტეს. პიჲა მუჲა აღოდეს?
    ťorocina amseri opşa ǩiyamťes. p̌iya muya ağodes?
    The pigeon chicks were screaming a lot tonight. I wonder if something's happened.
  2. (Atina) (child or woman) to shout in a thin voice
    ბერექ კიჲამს. ციცა პიჯის ქომელუდვი დო მოკიჲამტას.
    berek ǩiyams. ʒiʒa p̌icis komeludvi do moǩiyamťas.
    The child is screaming. Put the pacifier in his mouth so he doesn't scream.
  3. (Atina) to meow
