Georgian[edit]

Etymology[edit]

From Armenian մատուռ (matuṙ), from Ancient Greek μαρτύριον (martúrion, shrine of a martyr). Direct borrowing from Ancient Greek would have yielded Georgian *მარტული (*marṭuli).

Noun[edit]

მატური (maṭuri)

  1. a quarter of the cemetery, where the dead of one family are buried
