From Egyptian ḥwt-kꜣ-ptḥ, a metonymical term for the city of Memphis. Compare Ancient Greek Αἴγυπτος (Aíguptos, “Egypt”) and Ugaritic 𐎈𐎋𐎔𐎚 (ḥkpt /ḥikupta/, “Memphis”) from the same source.
