Etymology[edit]
From Ancient Greek Μένδης (Méndēs, “Mendes, a city in Lower Egypt”) which in turn is from Egyptian [script needed] (Pr-bꜣ-nb-ḏd.t, “temple of Banebdjedet, a ram god whose cult centre was at Mendes”).
