Etymology[edit]
From Proto-Berber *măraw, from Proto-Afroasiatic. Cognate with Kabyle mraw, Tuareg măraw, Egyptian mḏw and Proto-Chadic *gʷam- (with metathesis, if not borrowed from Niger-Congo) whence Hausa gōmà.
