  1. (phonetics, obsolete) A form of the breve diacritic when not carried by a vowel.
    E.g. The short vowel ⟨a꭛⟩ is equivalent to ⟨ă⟩, just as the long vowel ⟨a꞉⟩ is equivalent to ⟨ā⟩, and the nasal vowel ⟨a∼⟩ is equivalent to ⟨ã⟩.
