Korean[edit]

Etymology[edit]

First attested in the Seokbo sangjeol (釋譜詳節 / 석보상절), 1447, as Middle Korean ᄂᆞᆯ〮나다〮 (Yale: nólnà-tá), from ᄂᆞᆶ〮 (Yale: nólh, “blade”) + 나다 (Yale: nà-tá, “to come out”). In Middle Korean, it meant both "sharp" (of a blade) and "swift".
