Etymology[edit]

From 비단(緋緞) (bidan, silk fabric) +‎ (-s-, genitive interfix; omitted from the spelling, but this causes the tense phonation of the following consonant) +‎ (gil, road).

Pronunciation[edit]

  • (SK Standard/Seoul) IPA(key): [ˈpi(ː)da̠nk͈iɭ]
  • Phonetic hangul: [(ː)]
    • Though still prescribed in Standard Korean, most speakers in both Koreas no longer distinguish vowel length.
