Etymology[edit]
Literally "thread icefish." From 실 (sil, “thread”) + 뱅어 (baeng'eo, “Japanese icefish”).

- Phonetic hangul: [실(ː)뱅어/실(ː)벵어]
- Though still prescribed in Standard Korean, most speakers in both Koreas no longer distinguish vowel length.
