Etymology[edit]

여우 (yeou, fox) +‎ (bi, rain), probably from an ancient legend in which a cloud loving a fox cried sadly when the fox was going to get married. Also refer to synonymous Japanese 狐の嫁入り (kitsune no yomeiri, literally the marriage of the fox).
