From Sanskrit त्रीणि n (trī́ṇi) (see त्रि m (trí)), from Proto-Indo-Aryan *tráyas, from Proto-Indo-Iranian *tráyas, from Proto-Indo-European *tréyes. Cognate with Pali tīṇi.
