Etymology [edit]
Common Balto-Slavic, cognate with Latvian galva, Lithuanian galva, Old Prussian gallū, galwo.
Possibly related to *golъ (“bold”), which is possibly related to Old High German kalo (“bold”). Compare also Latin calva (“skull”).
Relation to Old Armenian գլուխ (glux, “head”) is also possible.
