Etymology

Learned borrowing from Βάρδυλις (Bárdulis), Βάρδυλλις (Bárdullis), the name of an Illyrian king attested in Ancient Greek sources. The name is widely reinterpreted as bardhë +‎ yll, literally white star, and although connection with bardhë (white) is indeed widely endorsed,[1][2] similarity with yll (star) is most probably coincidental. See Βάρδυλις (Bárdulis) for further information.
