to "kiss the brass ring"

(Its seems to mean something like:

• to acknowledge ones inferior position (similar to the manner in which the subject of a king,might have to kiss the ring (that is one the hand ) of the king .

( When googling "kiss the brass ring",I have found only 2 passing references. However, I have heard the expression used, several times (without noting details ! ) .
