  「世間只有剩男子，莫得剩女人。」——四川。或「只有剩男沒剩女。」此就平時情形說，若第二次世界大戰後，日本、德國，壯丁多戰死，剩女就太多了。

  "Only leftover men exist in this world; there is no such thing as 'leftover women'." - (Proverb from) Sichuan. Alternatively, "There are only leftover men, no leftover women."

  This saying is true in general. However, during the Second World War, in wartime Japan and Germany, (this would be incorrect) since many conscripted males died on battlefields, and there was an excess of leftover women.

  「有的剩男做和尚，沒有剩女做尼姑。」——福建福清。

  "Only some leftover men want to be Buddhist monks; no leftover women want to be nuns."

  “有剩男没剩女。”——谓只有因找不到对象而结不了婚的男子，没有嫁不出去的女人。意即在婚姻问题上，女子比男子好解决。亦可反过来说。

  "There are only leftover men, no leftover women." - Meaning that, there are only men who remain unmarried because they can't find wives, not women who cannot find husbands to marry. i.e. The issue of unmarried women is easier to solve than that of unmarried men. This may also be said in reverse.
