Translingual[edit]

Symbol[edit]

D₂O

  1. A molecule of heavy water, comprising two deuterium atoms and an oxygen atom.
  2. (informal, uncountable) heavy water

Usage notes[edit]

IUPAC recommends that deuterium should be called by the chemical symbol "2H", not "D".[1] It follows that heavy water should be called "2H2O", not "D2O".
