Inherited from Ottoman Turkish افلاق (eflak, Wallachia), from Old Church Slavonic влахъ m (vlaxŭ, a Roman; a Vlach), from Proto-Slavic *vòlxъ m (a Roman) ultimately from Proto-Germanic *walhaz m (a non-Germanic foreigner, aCelt; later a Roman).
