First attested as Finkeburen in 1851-1855. Calque of West Frisian Finkebuorren, a compound of either Finke (“a personal name”), vinke (“poor-quality turf”) or fink (“common chaffinch, Fringilla coelebs”) and the plural form of buer (“house, cottage”).
