Dutch[edit]

Etymology[edit]

Potentially attested as hehun in the second half of the 9th century, attested with certainty as apud hian towards the end of the 11th century. Etymology unknown. A proposed derivation from Proto-Indo-European *(a)kew (glittering, bending outward) is farfetched.

  • IPA(key): /ɦin/
  • Hyphenation: Hien
  • Rhymes: -in
